Courtesy of Vogue Taiwan. river@riverlin.art riverlin@tpac-taipei.org ︎ / CV / Reviews Working across performance and choreography in theatre, dance, visual arts, and queer culture, River Lin is an artist and curator based in Paris and Taipei.&nbsp;In the recent series My Body Is, the choreographic work situates one’s body and its identities in socially engaged encounters, dialogues, and movements, and transforms the understanding of an institutional form and itsarchitecture. His work has been presented by international institutions such as the Centre Pompidou, the Centre National de la Danse, the Palais de Tokyo, Lafayette Anticipations, M+ Museum, Rockbond Art Museum, and the 2016 Taipei Biennale, among others. River is a Shortlist Artist of the 2022 Live Art Prize by ANTI Contemporary Art Festival. His curatorial work advocates for cultural spaces and decolonial knowledge production that strengthen artist communities across local and international arts ecosystems. He works closely with queer, feminist, and Indigenous Peoples artists through dramaturgy, commissioning, and co-production. He is currently Curator at Taipei Performing Arts Center for ADAM, Camping Asia (with CND), and the 2023-2025 Taipei Arts Festival. His recent curatorial projects include the Indonesian Dance Festival (since 2022), the 2025 Direction of YPAM (Yokohama International Performing Arts Meeting), and the FORUM of 2025 Biennale de la Danse de Lyon.&nbsp; River has also served as a juror for international projects and organizations, including 2025/26 Onassis AiR, Creative Australia, the 2026 SEDA Prize, and Taipei Artist Village. He has co-edited the OnCurating journal’s Issue 61 “Collective Curating in Performing Arts,” and chief-edited Networked Bodies: The Culture and Ecosystem of Contemporary Performance. A library is a cultural, educational and scientific institution that organize and collects knowledge production open to the public. While a contemporary library today has also functioned as a cultural centre, performing cultural collectivity to engage with community members through events or public programs has been as well taken into account. In this context, the artist River Lin questions what a queer library would look like when a library goes live through living bodies as a temporary library within an existing spatial structure of a library. My Body is a Queer Library&nbsp;brings together a group of Finland-based performers as a durational takeover to open up discussions and question what makes a library, what makes a library queer, what a queer library look like, and how ‘queer’ can facilitate our practices and understandings of acknowledging our bodies as a container and collection of of knowledge, education and everyday life. In the context of Seen Through Others, solo exhibition by Xinyi Cheng. &gt; Taipei 2019Concept, choreography &amp; direction :&nbsp; River Lin performance: Tseng Chih-Wei, Chang Ko-Yang, Hsu Sheng-Han , Chien Shih-Han, Huang Gia-Yeh, Sherwin Chimera, Lee Song-En. 7-8 December, 2019.Kuandu Museum of Fine Arts, Taipei, as part of project Liqueered curated by Yu Cheng-Ta. ︎ Video doc (Taipei) Speculating what a queer museum would look like and feel like and considering the body of a museum is where historical embodiments and social progress have been collected and performed, My Body is a Queer History Museum is a performance project taking over a museum or exhibition spaces through choreographed happenings, community engagement and participation.&nbsp; In the Paris re-staged edition for the Lafayette Anticipations,&nbsp;My Body is a Queer History Museum arises from the following question: How to imagine a queer intervention within the context of an existing structure and exhibit? This idea is channeled through physical embodiment, as it is part of a performative heritage that seeks to disrupt the modalities and spaces of representation, questioning their various forms of hospitality. As such, My Body is a Queer History Museum proposes the creation of a temporary museum within an existing exhibit space, using the personal stories and gender politics of a dedicated group of performers. These non-binary life materials relate queer journeys and experiences, reflecting a multiplicity of oblique, deviant identities and ways of seeing the world. The stories become the live material for happenings that will be presented over two days (durational performances of 4 hours). Choreographed phrases, readings of poetic texts and social manifestos, participatory activities: each initiative is an opportunity for the public to connect with the stories and the context within which they are shared. If River Lin’s work seems to find its place within artist Xinyi Cheng’s solo exhibit, it is because it resonates with the intimate moments – fleeting and fervent – that the visual artist has captured on canvas. River’s performative gesture is an amplification of Cheng’s sensorial encounters (on fire, in the cold, in water) through the manifestation of their effects on the bodies that traverse and live them. Thus, the performance of a museum within an exhibit becomes a surprising and inviting opportunity to consider relational narratives (about bodies, affects, wants, and desires). Meanwhile, to the artists, ‘gender neutrality’ is not only the neutural or decoding state between the masculine and feminine, but more radidically is a gender spectrum itself. In this context, gender neutrality has its own transgender fludity and performativity. &nbsp; Transgender Exercise: A Theatre, as its first act and excercise, invites audience members to together exolore the sexuality of the Naitonal Theatre’s black box theate through participation and workshopping during which the artists divide its dimension into 4 parts: the reception, the stage, the backstage and the ceiling.&nbsp; Through a performative theatre tour, audiences are encouraged to touch, discover and rethink what makes a theatre space masculine, feminine, sexual and sexy, and conditions that people can transform themselves and a theatre into transgender progresses.&nbsp; Concept, choreography and performance: Pin-Wen Su and River Lin 24 March, 2022 Duration: 70 mins Production: National Theatre of Taiwan, part of TIFA- Taiwan International Festival of Arts, 2022. photo by Youwei Chen
